She was in non-commissioned service in the Military Sealift Command from 1988 to 1992, operating during the final years of the Cold War. She was transferred to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) in 1992 and in 2003 was commissioned into service with NOAA as the fisheries research ship NOAAS ''Oscar Elton Sette'' (R 335). == Construction == The U.S. Navy awarded the contract to build ''Adventurous'' to VT Halter Marine, Inc., on 5 April 1985. She was laid down on at VT Halter Marines shipyard at Moss Point, Mississippi, on 19 December 1985 and launched on 23 September 1987.
